Middle School Newsletter 4.22.2024
Webster’s dictionary defines teacher as “one that teaches”. I truly believe that this definition is being stretched beyond what may have been true many years ago. To teach these days goes well beyond teaching subject content. Teachers ensure that their students are building capacity in skills such as collaboration, effective communication, problem solving, and perseverance just to name a few. Additionally, teachers are also guiding their students as they develop their character and moral compass. This profession has never been for the faint of heart but when you add teaching in the middle of a pandemic, this truly takes a gifted individual.
I am inspired daily by the individuals that I am so grateful to call my team. They show up everyday DOING THEIR BEST so that their students have an exceptional educational experience. They have the highest of expectations for their students and they lead by example because they also have the highest expectations for themselves and one another. You can find them working tirelessly on innovative units and lessons so that their students are engaged, curious and challenged with the work that is put before them. They answer endless questions, emails, and phone calls from not only their students but also parents. I can say with the utmost confidence that this team of educators love and care for their students as if they were family because we are indeed a very large family.
This week kicks off Teacher Appreciation Week and I can’t think of a better time to wrap around our teachers. I encourage you to talk with your child and ask him/her how they want to show their teachers thanks for all their hard work. This gesture doesn't have to be extravagant...a simple heartfelt thank you goes a long way!
I hope each of you have a wonderful week and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns or questions.
Amablemente,
Kim

2024-25 Calendar
Estimadas familias de PCS,
We are excited to share our board approved school calendar for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
We know that while there are many reasons why you choose PCS for your child(ren), our extremely talented teaching staff likely tops the list. As a school, we are committed to supporting the ongoing development of our staff. In keeping with that commitment, we have added 8 early release days to our 24-25 school calendar, one each month.
These monthly 2:00 release days for students provide a greater, continuous block of time (roughly 2+ hours as it will include after school time for teachers as well) for all teachers to plan and fully internalize units and daily lessons. They will also allow for opportunities for vertical talk/planning/learning to occur between grade levels to provide an even deeper understanding of standards and knowledge that is needed in order to best prepare students for the grade level above them.
We realize this is a change and thank you in advance for your support. We are currently examining our Before and After Care (BAC) staffing plan to determine the role of BAC on early release days. Look for more information about our BAC program coming soon.
