Elementary School Newsletter - September 13th, 2021

It is my honor to write my first newsletter to the Elementary School families at Premier Charter School. I am so excited to be a part of a transformational time in education. It has always been my goal to make sure that students, staff, and families feel safe and happy about their experience at PCS and that commitment will not waiver as we head into the new school year. We have a veteran team ready to take on the challenges that will come this year and I am confident that students are with the best of the best in the city of St. Louis. I am excited to be working with Marissa Moore who is joining as our new Assistant Principal. She brings over a decade of experience in education and her philosophy is as student-centered as it comes. I look forward to introducing and showcasing some of our staff members in future newsletters.

Just a little bit about myself... I am a career changer who started professionally in finance and have been in the field of education since 2010. I spent a year teaching in Chicago and then moved to St. Louis and have been at PCS since 2011. I was a Middle School Social Studies teacher for 5 years, most recently I was the Elementary Assistant Principal for 6 years and am excited to lead in my first year as the Elementary School Principal. I am a proud Hoosier! I graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Political Science and I hold a Masters of Arts in Teaching from National-Louis University-Chicago as well as a Masters of Education in Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri-Columbia. I was born in the Chicagoland area and I do bring my fandom of those sports teams! I enjoy my free time with my wife Natalie, my two sons Charlie (10) and Sam (7), and our dog Finlay.

I encourage you to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns and hold me accountable to making the school great. I can be reached at 314-645-9600, ext. 610 or at tstrickler@premiercharterschool.org
Just a couple of reminders as we start the school year..

Please remember to actively assess how your kids are feeling and if they have any symptoms each day. Your partnership in not sending sick kids to school is also a key strategy to preventing exposure and spread. Although there is a lot we do not have control over with this pandemic, working together on this will give us the best shot possible to keep us in person this year. Also, please ensure that your students bring masks with them to school every day.

Arrival/Dismissal reminders:

  • For all students in 2-8, classes begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 3:25 pm. TARDIES ARE TAKEN AT 8:15.

  • Students may arrive between 8:00 am and 8:15 am to ensure proper supervision of students on campus at all times.

  • Dismissal occurs at 3:25.

  • Drop off and pick up are the busiest times of the school day. We really appreciate your patience and understanding as we are all working to keep our students safe. Families can help us in this process by using their turn signals when entering and leaving the campus as well as following the directions of the staff members in the parking lot!

Contacting your teacher:

  • The easiest ways to communicate with your child’s teacher are via his or her school email address, or by leaving a voicemail message through their phone extension. Staff email addresses are: firstnameinitiallastname@premiercharterschool.org. A directory of staff email addresses may also be found on the school’s website.

  • You may email or call your child’s teacher. Typically, specific days are scheduled for teacher conferences at the end of the first and third quarter, but you may request a conference as needs arise anytime throughout the school year. Please note that these need to be scheduled with the teacher prior to meeting as unscheduled meetings cannot happen during the day because of the busy daily schedules of teachers.

Tomorrow night, September 14th, is our first Family Night at JJ Twigs on Hampton Ave. Please stop by to support PCS starting at 4:00 p.m.

Attached an update on COVID.

We are going to have a lot of fun, learn a lot, and get back to social connections that we have been missing for a while. More to come this year and I look forward to communicating in better detail in upcoming newsletters and family forums!

Sinceramente,

Tyson
