Early Childhood Newsletter 8.28.2023

Hello PCS Families!

We want to officially welcome everyone to the 2023-2024 school year!  It has been such a  pleasure to meet and welcome so many families back to school!  If we have not met yet, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jodi Huber and I have been at PCS since 2003.  I taught 1st grade for nine years and then moved into the assistant principal role for 8 years.  This is my third year as the Principal of Early Childhood (Kindergarten and First Grade).  I love the Premier Charter School community and feel honored everyday to be serving the most amazing children!

My name is Mary George, I am the head of the Pre-K program.  I have worked at PCS since we first opened in 2000.  I have taught Kindergarten, started our school library and have worked as a coach in our coaching program.  I have met many of you on school tours and at open houses because I also help with the enrollment of our Early Childhood building.  I agree with Mrs. Huber that we have such an amazing community and it is always such a pleasure to get to know you, the parents, as we build our partnership to support your children.

We have had such a wonderful start to the year!  Our students have really settled into the routine of coming to school!  We know that we are perhaps your family's first experience in education. It is our goal to create a strong social and emotional foundation, but also foster their curiosity of learning.  Children will be seen as thinkers, researchers, and problem solvers.  This is where they will grow and flourish!

A Few Reminders:

We really appreciate your patience with drop off and pick up thus far.  For the most part drop off has been somewhat smooth.  We know that the pick up traffic has been very congested.  We are working to make some tweaks to this to help with the flow of traffic.  Please see some things below that you can do to help us as we dismiss almost 1,000 students from our campus.

Morning Drop Off:

  • Students should arrive between 8:00-8:15

  • Reminder: starting Monday, Aug. 28th all 1st grade and Kindergarten students need to use the drop off circle.

  • In the morning: there is NO parking in the circle drive.

  • When using the circle drop off: Parents must stay in their car and staff will help your students out of the vehicle.

  • If parking on the street, please use the entry to find the closest sidewalk to enter the campus and always use the disengaged crosswalks when moving through the parking lot.

  • Please follow the directions of staff in the parking lot for your child’s safety.

Afternoon Pick Up:

  • Pre-K and Kindergarten pick up is at 3:15

  • 1st Grade pick up is at 3:25. Parents, we encourage you not to get here too early as we get Kindergarten dismissed first and that will open up a lot more parking for you.

  • Please bring your child's name sheet to your designated pick up spot. It will help the process move faster.

  • Look for the bright colored signs that have teacher names and pick up locations.

  • Please use your turn signals when leaving the parking lot.

  • If parking on the street, please use the crosswalks and proper sidewalks to exit the campus grounds.

School Hours:

We also want to remind families that the school day begins at 8:15.  When arriving at school after 8:15 your child is considered tardy.  Your child will need to stop by the office to get a tardy slip before heading to class.

Family Involvement Opportunity:

This is an opportunity to meet PCS families. It  is a great way for our families to get to know one another and support PCS! Once a month PCG will be hosting family nights around the area.

Upcoming Dates:

  • September 4 - NO SCHOOL - Labor Day

  • September 5 - Family Night Rockin’ Jump 4:00-8:00pm

  • September 11 - Board Meeting 4:30 pm

  • September 12 - PCG Meeting 6:00 pm

  • September 14 - Fire Drill

  • September 21 - Intruder Drill

  • September 22- NO SCHOOL - PD day

Have a wonderful week!  If you have any questions, need to discuss a matter, or simply need a check in...our door is always open!  Please feel free to contact us via phone or email.
