Elementary School Newsletter 3.25.2024

Dear Elementary Families,

Welcome back! We hope you and your families had a rejuvenating spring break filled with relaxation and cherished moments. Before the break, it was heartening to see so many of you flooding our halls for parent-teacher conferences. Your presence and active engagement in your child's education are truly appreciated. As we return to school refreshed and ready for the remainder of the academic year, we look forward to continuing our partnership in nurturing the growth and success of your children. It’s hard to believe we are approaching our final 2 months of school. We are ready to make April & May the best months yet!

Multicultural Fair:

The Annual PCS Multicultural Fair will be held April 25. This event is a treasured event for students, staff and our PCS families.  Please enjoy another article, written by Middle Schooler Mairin Frei, on its significance.

Summer Camp Opportunity:

St. Louis Public Library will again offer FREE summer camps at various locations! Registration for camps will open at noon on Monday, March 4. Registration and camp info can be found here

Upcoming Dress Down Days:

On March 29th, our Teeny Ten group is hosting a dollar dress down day to raise money for beautification efforts in our building (money will go towards materials for murals and plants and more!). 2nd-5th graders are invited to dress down on these two days and can bring a dollar to their teacher's to collect.

MAP Testing:

MAP testing for 3rd, 4th & 5th graders is right around the corner! To ensure your child's success, please prioritize their attendance during their testing window. Consistent attendance allows them to fully engage with the material and perform to the best of their abilities. Additionally, adequate rest and proper nutrition play pivotal roles in supporting cognitive function and overall well-being. Encourage your child to get plenty of sleep and maintain a balanced diet, especially during this period. Together, let's empower our students to approach MAP testing with confidence and readiness. Please see the dates below for each grade level’s testing week:

  • 5th Grade: Week of April 1st

  • 4th Grade: Week of April 8th

  • 3rd Grade: Week of April 15th

Pick Up Procedure Reminder:

Over the past few weeks and months, we've observed an increasing number of cars stopping in the left lane to pick up children. This poses a significant safety risk as students are crossing a lane of traffic without supervision, with no guarantee that traffic will remain stopped. Additionally, we've noticed parents crossing in the middle of the parking lot while we're directing traffic, which creates hazards for both drivers and pedestrians.

Please remember that safety is our utmost priority when picking up your students. To ensure the safety of all, we kindly ask that you use designated crosswalks while a staff member is present to stop traffic. Moreover, we urge you not to stop in the left lane for pick-up; instead, please wait until a parking spot becomes available.

Thank you for your attention and cooperation in this important matter.

Upcoming dates:

  • March 29 - Elementary School Dress Down Day for $1

  • March 29 - 4th & 5th Grade Dance

  • April 4 - Board Meeting

  • April 11- Fire Drill

  • April 25 - Multicultural Fair

  • April 26 - Professional Development Day- No School

Have a great week!
