Middle School Newsletter 5.20.2024

These past few weeks I have taken some time to reflect on this past year.  I felt a smile on my face as I was filled with joy. This year was a gift in that it brought me much joy.

Teachers dedicated endless hours prepping and planning engaging lessons while also building a supportive and safe community. Students showed up daily to not only learn but to also have fun. Parents, you have given us encouragement, understanding and grace when it was needed and for that we are so thankful.

As we transition into summer we also have two groups of students who are facing major transitions: our 5th graders are transitioning into middle school as our 8th graders transition from PCS to their new high school.

Saying goodbye to the class of 2024 will be bittersweet for many of us. They created memories that will last a lifetime.  I am confident that each graduate will go onto do incredible things during their high school careers and beyond. We all feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to watch your children grow into the incredible individuals they are. Thank you for giving us the privilege of spending the past three years (or for some, many more) with your precious children...they will be greatly missed.

As we say goodbye to the 2023-24 school year, I would like to thank you for all of your support. Have a wonderful summer...one that is full of hope and endless possibilities. And please remember, whether you are ending your time as a PCS parent or just joining our middle school each one of you is forever part of our family.

Amablemente,

Kim

2024-25 Calendar

Estimadas familias de PCS,

We are excited to share our board approved school calendar for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.

We know that while there are many reasons why you choose PCS for your child(ren), our extremely talented teaching staff likely tops the list.  As a school, we are committed to supporting the ongoing development of our staff.  In keeping with that commitment, we have added 8 early release days to our 24-25 school calendar, one each month.

These monthly 2:00 release days for students provide a greater, continuous block of time (roughly 2+ hours as it will include after school time for teachers as well) for all teachers to plan and fully internalize units and daily lessons. They will also allow for opportunities for vertical talk/planning/learning to occur between grade levels to provide an even deeper understanding of standards and knowledge that is needed in order to best prepare students for the grade level above them.

We realize this is a change and thank you in advance for your support.  We are currently examining our Before and After Care (BAC) staffing plan to determine the role of BAC on early release days.  Look for more information about our BAC program coming soon.
