Boletín de la Escuela Secundaria

I can’t believe we are wrapping up the first quarter. On one hand it feels like time flew by yet on the other it feels as if this year quarter 1 was exceptionally long. Regardless, I am excited to see many of you this week when you are in the building for your child’s conference.  Conferences are the perfect opportunity to see some of the successes your child is having in school.

In middle school we are excited to introduce Student Led Conferences to you. We understand that this format would provide students with an opportunity to share their learning experiences with their parents. Our hope is, that over time, these conferences will provide opportunities for an increase in internal motivation and an increased ownership over their learning.

Students have been choosing pieces of work that they would like to highlight during their conference. It is critical that they have a voice in this process as it is all about their learning and what's important to them. When students are provided with time to reflect, you would be surprised that they don’t always choose their best work. They'll include places where they struggled, places where they improved, and places where they need help. This process took time and guidance from their teachers.

Teachers are eager to share this experience with you as your child shares their performance during the first quarter. We also look forward to our continued partnering with you for the remainder of the year. Once again, thank you for entrusting us to provide the very best education possible for your child.

Como siempre, no duden en contactarnos con cualquier pregunta o preocupación.

Amablemente,

Kim

Red Ribbon Week:

This week is Red Ribbon Week which is our  National Drug Awareness week. We will celebrate this week by having themed dress down days. Please see the flyer below for details. As with any dress down, any student not following the approved dress down theme will be asked to have dress code clothing brought up to school.

Fall Dress Down on October 31st:

As I mentioned earlier, one of our Graduate Aims is empowerment. A great example of this is our upcoming dress down day on Monday, October 31st. 8th grader, Erin Perkins, pitched an idea for a dress down and after a few compromises she has successfully organized an “Era Dress Down Day”. The flyer below outlines the details. As with any dress down, any student not following the approved dress down theme will be asked to have dress code clothing brought up to school.
